Smoking has been legally prohibited in all enclosed public places and workplaces across Great Britain since July 2007, when England joined Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland in implementing a smoking ban.

Smoking is legally prohibited in all enclosed public places and workplaces (including work vehicles) across Great Britain - this is enforced by local authorities.
The legislative framework supporting this ban includes the Smoking, Health and Social Care (Scotland) Act 2005, the Smoking (Northern Ireland) Order 2006 and the regulations under the Health Act 2006 (for England and Wales).
Employers owe additional dutiesto their employees under employment and health and safety legislation.
As part of their overall Health and Safety Policy, employers should have a smoke-free policy in place that provides a framework for action and compliance.
